National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test or NEET


NEET is a qualifying cum entrance exam for students who wish to pursue undergraduate medical course (MBBS) or dental course (BDS) in government and private medical colleges in India NEET - UG, for MBBS and BDS courses, is being conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and will replace the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT). NEET will gradually replace all individual MBBS exams conducted by states or colleges themselves except under-graduate courses at the AIIMS in New Delhi and Post-graduate Institute for Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh may be outside the NEET's purview as these two institutes were set up by separate laws, which need to be amended in Parliament to introduce the new system. The first exam was held on 5 May 2013.

    Pattern of Exam

 
The examination which consists of 180 MCQ (Physics-45. Chemistry-45 and Biology-90) will be administered giving duration of 3 hours. Each correct answer is given 4 marks and 1 mark is deducted for a wrong answer.

    AIIMS ENTRANCE EXAMS

 
All-India Institute of Medical Sciences was established in 1956 as an institution of national importance by an Act of Parliament with the objects to develop patterns of teaching in Undergraduate and Post-graduate Medical Education in all its branches so as to demonstrate a high standard of Medical Education in India; to bring together in one place educational facilities of the highest order for the training of personnel in all important branches of health activity; and to attain self-sufficiency in Post-graduate Medical Education.

AIIMS is probably one of the most selective medical institutes in the world with a success rate of less than 0.1% as it had only 72 seats at UG level till 2011. Six new AIIMS were introduced which became operational in 2012 by an amendment bill of parliament. The New AIIMS stated with a total of 300 seats. However, from academic session 2013-14, the total number of MBBS seats in the new AIIMS would go up to 600.

    Pattern of Exam

The examination which consists of 200 MCQ + Assertion Reason ( Physics - 60. Chemistry - 60, Biology - 60 and GK-20 ) will be administered giving duration of 3 hours 30 Mins. Every right answer will fetch 1 mark and every wrong answer will fetch a NEGATIVE credit of 1 /3 marks.

    Armed Forces Medical College, Pune


Armed Forces Medical College is a premier medical institute of the country acknowledged as a centre of excellence for education and research. The college provides training to under-graduate and post-graduate medical and nursing students with assured career prospects in the defence services. AFMC is affdiatedto Maharashtra University of Health Science, Nashik. Service Liability: Students have compulsory liability to serve as Commisioned Officers in the Armed Forces Medical Services. The offer of the type of commission will depend on the vacancies available. The candidates' parents/guardians are required to sign a bond agreement at the time of admission. Number of Seats: A total of 13 0 students (105 boys & 25 girls) will be admitted.

    Eligibility


•   A candidate should be a citizen of India.
•   Must be unmarried. Marrying during the course is not permitted.
•   Should be medically fit
•   Must have attained the age of 17yrs on 31 st Dec of the year of application, but must not have attained the age of 22 years on that date(Not more than 24 years in case of candidates who have passed or are appearing in final B Sc examinations).
•   Candidate must have passed all the subjects opted for in the first attempt of the qualifying examinations as a regular candidate with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken simultaneously and securing not less than 60% of the aggregate marks in these 3 science subjects taken together and not less than 50% marks in English and 50% marks in each of the science subjects. They must have also passed an examination in Mathematics of the 10th standard.
Pattern of Examination:   Rank of NEET will be taken in to consideration for admission to MBBS course. Successful candidates are called for interview in June for the courses starting in July. Admission is subject to medical fitness.

    JIPMER, PONDICHERRY


Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research is a premier institute providing medical education in India.. Although Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research got its present name only in 1964 after the de facto transfer of Pondicherry from the French government to the Government of India in 1956, its history can be traced back to 1823 when the French government established a medical school called "Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry". JIPMER is affiliated to the Pondicherry University. The primary function of JIPMER is to impart quality education in undergraduate and postgraduate courses but it is also active in research in various fields of modern medicine. There are 75 seats for the MBBS course out of which 20 seats are reserved for Pondicherry native

Pattern of Examination: Objective type questions Phy(40) Chem(40) Bot & Zoo (80) Eng (40). MM 200. Time 2 1/2 hrs. No Negative Marking.

    CMC, VELLORE

Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore, is one of the largest and most reputed medical centres in India. This century old Christian institution was founded by Dr Ida Sophia Scudder to train women doctors. Male students were admitted for the first time in 1947. Some ground-breaking achievements of CMC include the first reconstructive surgery for leprosy patients in the world in 1948, the first successful open heart surgery and the first middle ear microsurgery for deafness in India in 1961, and the first liver transplantation in India in 1999.

Pattern of examination : The entrance test is of 3 hours and 10 minutes duration and contains MCQ. There are 60 questions each of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (120 minutes total) and 120 questions in General Ability with emphasis on Speed and Accuracy and on Issues of Current Topical Interest (70 minutes).Performance in this test is the basis of a call for practical tests and interviews and final selections.

All admitted candidates will have to undertake a service obligation, to work in an area of need for a period of two years after completion of training.

Kasturba Medical College (KMC),Manipal (MAHE)

It was founded on June 30,1953 by Dr T.M.A. Pai. KMC is the first medical college in the private sector in the country and is highly appreciated for its academic and infrastructural support. Ranked among the top 10 medical colleges in India, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal serves students who come from 44 countries. Manipal University does not have any management quota or reserved seats.

Pattern of Examination: Admissions to MBBS(250 seats) and BDS are done only on basis of rank in All India Manipal University ONLINE Undergraduate Entrance Test UGET Candidates have to answer on a computer provided at the examination center. The test duration is of 2 Hours and 30 Minutes Multiple Choice Questions # 240.


The Entrance test will consist of 60 questions of Physics, 60 Questions of Chemistry, 80 Questions of Biology and 40 Question English and General Aptitude. Candidates aspiring for MBBS and BDS have to score a minimum of 50% in the UGET for being eligible for the admission.

      Uttarakhand PMT / Other State PMTs

All the state level PMTs for admission to MBBS /BDS course will be replaced by NEET in due course of time. It may take a year or two. However most of the states have already replaced their exam with NEET. NEET will give National as well state rank of the student from where he is eligible.
